Abstract: This study is focused to (1) examine the suitability of three English textbooks for eighth grade students. (2) find out the strengths and weaknesses of three English textbooks. In this study, three English textbook for the eighth grade students were ‘Bright an English Course book’, ‘When English Rings a Bell’, and ‘Interactive English’. The data in this research were analyzed by using 14 criteria according to Tomlinson (2008) to analyze the course book. The analysis revealed that some of the materials in the textbooks fulfill 11 of 14 criteria of good textbooks by Brian Tomlinson. Another textbook fulfill 8 of 14 criteria of good textbooks by Brian Tomlinson. Another finding is that those textbooks had the strengths and weaknesses. Those books provide varied topics, activities, texts, attractive pictures. Nonetheless, they did not include material for vocabulary.
